Board President Melodi Dice’s Statement on the Retirement of Dr. Lindo
Our school community has been informed that our Superintendent, Dr. Debbra Lindo, will retire at the end of this school year on June 30, 2014. A proven leader, with tremendous talent, energy and integrity, Dr. Lindo has made great contributions to our District. Her leadership style is firm, focused and elegant, and she models always an unwavering commitment to serve students. This Board faces a tall challenge in replacing Dr. Lindo. She has an ambitious and successful career, and we are confident that her intelligence and passion will continue to make a positive difference for children.
The Board of Education has not yet determined the course of action that it will take to identify and secure Dr. Lindo’s successor. We will have our first discussion on this topic at the November 8th Board meeting. I am resolved to oversee a process that includes a thoughtful communications plan, to ensure that we keep our staff and school community informed and obtain input as we move through this upcoming transition.
At this time, and on behalf of the entire Board of Education, I want to recognize Dr. Lindo for her courageous leadership and remind everyone that the school year has just begun and that we still have a great deal of work to do for the next eight months, and that Dr. Lindo remains our leader during this time. We will continue to trust and follow her lead.
I also want to stress to our school community that the upcoming change does not alter our focus or our critical initiatives. We remain committed to a full integration and implementation of the Common Core State Standards, focusing on 21st century instructional strategies and realizing the dream of our Emeryville Community Center for Life and Learning. To be clear, we face a change in leadership but not direction, and we thank Dr. Lindo for assisting us in setting this direction.
